University of Michigan–Flint: Mpowering My Success

University of Michigan-Flint Mpowering My Success program provides previous foster youth admitted to the University with life skills assessment and training, weekly meetings with a Life Skills Coach Mentor, contact four hours per month, financial support including emergency funds, champion advocates working on the student’s behalf, on campus housing assistance, including during school breaks, and helpful guidance for success in college and life.

 

Program Eligibility/Affiliation Criteria:

Students must be under the age of 21 and have been in a verifiable foster care placement  under the supervision of the Department of Health and Human Services starting at age 14 or older. Students that were adopted from foster care after their 16th birthday are also eligible. Enrollment in the program requires student participation in support services such as weekly meetings with the program’s Life Skills Coach and mentor contact up to 4-hrs per month.
