Words Matter: Student Voices from the FSM Network

Person-first language is a core value of Fostering Success Michigan.

Person-first language removes labels and allows people to be defined as individuals and not by their experiences.

Instead of saying "foster kid", please say "young adult who has experienced foster care". Foster care is an experience, not a definition.

Check out the Words Matter: Student Voices from the FSM Network link below to see how youth define themselves!

Your donations help make a difference

Fostering Success Michigan is a program of Educate Tomorrow that aims to increase access and success in higher education and post-college careers for youth with experience in foster care. Learn how you can contribute to building a holistic network that insulates (i.e., strengthens protective factors and reduces risks) the education to career "pipeline."
